Third Class Indoor Hurling Competition
Our Third Class Indoor Hurling team recently travelled to Cloghduv for their qualifying tournament. They produced a great performance in their first match to defeat Derrinacahera N.S.. Next up were a very capable Balinaspittle N.S. team who emerged victorious on a scoreline of 4-2. The next match was a hard fought draw with Berrings N.S. This left everything dependent on our last match with Balinacarriga N.S. If we won we would be in the final while Balinacarriga needed only a draw to progress. It was a titanic struggle with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions. Balinacarriga won it with almost the last puck of the game to make the scoreline 4 – 3. However all the lads really enjoyed the day and it was great to see every boy in 2nd and 3rd participating. They represented the school really well and everyone was very proud of them. The squad were excellently coached by Mr. Nolan and their performances certainly bore this out.
Fourth Class Indoor Hurling Competition
We made history last Thurs when, for the first time ever, our Fourth Class Indoor Hurling qualified for the County Finals. The qualifying tournament was held in Cloghduv between Tirelton, Ballyheada, Kilbonnane and Derrinacahera. In our first match Tirelton defeated Kilbonnane well. Our second opponents, Ballyheada from Ballinhassig, proved a different kettle of fish and won the match 5 – 2. It was then down to a winner takes all game against Derrinacahera to see who would face Ballyheada in the final. Our lads performed very well in the game and emerged worthy winners. Ballyheada now stood between us and progress to the County Finals. The game was a real thriller. At the interval Ballyheada led 2- 1. However Tirelton were hurling well and very committed so it was no surprise when Tirelton levelled at the start of the second half. It was now all up for grabs and finally we scored that golden goal to allowed us to progress. Magic days indeed!
